Andy Hursey is the head Director of Bands at Perry High School in Perry, Georgia. Before taking over the head Director at Perry High School, he was the Assistant Band Director at Perry Middle and High School. Prior to coming to Perry, Mr. Hursey was Director of Bands at the Academy of Richmond County High School in Augusta, GA. A native of Charleston, South Carolina, he received a Bachelors of Music Education Degree from the University of South Carolina and a Master of Science in Post Secondary Education from Troy University in Troy, AL. While at USC he was a member of the Mighty Sound of the Southeast Marching Band, Symphonic Band, and the Carolina Alive Show Choir Stage Band. Mr. Hursey was also a member of the Southern Pride Marching Band and Concert Band at Georgia Southern University. While at Perry High School, his bands have consistently received Superior ratings at GMEA Large Group Performance Evaluations and has won numerous accolades with the Panther Regiment Marching Band, including 5 Grand Championships. Mr. Hursey was awarded Perry High School “Teacher of the Year” for 2009. He has created small ensembles such as Woodwind Ensembles, Brass Ensembles, Percussion Ensembles, Steel Drum Ensemble, and Jazz Ensembles which have performed all over the state of Georgia. Mr. Hursey has adjudicated concert bands in Florida as well as marching band competitions in Georgia. He is now serving his third term as District 11 Band Chair for GMEA. Professional affiliations include Georgia Music Educators Association, Music Educators National Conference, National Band Association, Professional Association of Georgia Educators, Georgia Association for Jazz Educators, and Phi Mu Alpha professional fraternity for men in music in America.
