Mrs. Heller is a graduate of Peach County High School. She received her degrees in Art Education from Armstrong Atlantic State University (Bachelors) and Valdosta State University (Masters). She is an active member in both the Georgia Art Education Association (GAEA) and the National Art Education Association (NAEA). She has served as the Youth Art Month Co-chair, Secretary and President of GAEA and has taught many workshops at the annual GAEA conferences. She also worked for the Georgia Department of Education to help write the new Georgia Standards of Excellence in Visual Arts and the Visual Art Instructional Frameworks for new teachers. She began her teaching career at Ben Hill Elementary where she worked for two years before moving to Houston County. Mrs. Heller worked a split position for 5 years at Tucker Elementary and Kings Chapel Elementary. She was named Teacher of the Year at Tucker Elementary in 2003 and was a Top 10 finalist for the Houston County Teacher of the Year. She transferred to Perry High School when the decision was made to incorporate an art program at the school. She was named Teacher of the Year at PHS in 2008 and was once again a top 10 finalist for the Houston County Teacher of the Year. She has worked at PHS for the past 15 years. Her students have won numerous local, state, and national awards and scholarships. In 2019, she was named the Secondary Art Educator of the Year for Georgia and the Southeastern Secondary Art Educator of the Year.

Mrs. Heller is also the sponsor of the National Art Honor Society (NAHS) at PHS. NAHS is a very active service-oriented club where students share their artistic talents to better their school, community, and state. Upon completion of the Comprehensive Art class, Mrs. Heller encourages all art students to join NAHS.
